The History of TeamBG
« on: November 08, 2009, 12:51:46 AM »
Welcome.

This is the history of TeamBG, the birth of Infinity Engine modding as we know it today. It all started with TeamBG and its founder Ken Baker, aka KenTeamBG. This is a project I started a couple of years ago and its still an on going project. With the help of Archive.org, I was able to preserve a large amount of data, web sites, forums, and other sources of knowledge related to TeamBG and IE modding. I have rebuilt these sites to the best of my ability and memory. Yes I was there when it began, I am one of those few old timers that is left.

There are still missing gaps that need to be filled in. If there is something missing which you have and I don't, like an old tool, old mods or you would like to contribute, by all means drop me a line in PM or in this thread.

Hey CoM_Solaufein,

This is really awesome!  What a tribute to the many people who contributed to IE Modding over the years! :)

Just curious though, how does www.teambg.eu fit into the history of TeamBG (or does it)?

Thank you,
LoneRogue

Wow, you've put up ALOT of content. Kudos to you Solaufein and anyone else who had a hand in this grand documentation project. All of these web pages are historical documents filled with huge amounts of details, but that is not all that is important. Your analysis, or perspective really, of team bg history could really go a long way to effect a cohesive overview for young'uns (like myself) who weren't 'there' when it happened. Some articles detailing the structuring, whys, and hows of important events/trends would certainly capstone the TeamBG compendium.

Of history people conjur past strongmen (kings), bones, and objects they can dig up, but this here is also history in the absolute. Even if few people look back and wonder specifically about IE modding, all people wonder about what people thought and how they related to each other. Perhaps a hundred years from now, these websites will be briefly reviewed as cultural artifacts pertaining to the intellectual changes brought about by the Internet. Or maybe I'm fantasizing a little.

Anyway, there are some interesting stories here and at least little nostalgia. I say this: propose some over-arching historical themes, organize it, analyze it, and publish a textbook. I'm sure some professor of history will base an internet history course centered around it. Or maybe I'm fantasizing alot.

Very cool Solaufein! :lilly

I wish I could have been there in the early days  .  Thanks for putting this all together and double thanks for the time you put into this project.  It is great to see some of the pioneers like yourself still modding and creating.

I'm only concerned with the old days.
Meaning that the new teambg.eu doesn't have much relation to the old teambg.com/.net/.org's...

What I can tell, is that the (with or without the www.)teambg.eu began it's existance in 200...6, which is about 2 years after others went off line, so the .eu has nothing but few members in common with the old sites. And that's about it...

Thanks CoM_Solaufein for all your work.

Ah the good old days.
Per me si va nella citta dolente.
Per me si va nell eterno dolore.
Per me si va tra la perduta gente...
Lasciate ogni speranza perduta che'entrate!

I did say, somewhere, that I would upload the old tools utilities and I have (seeing that TeamBG.eu is DoA), well some of them like the ones made after 2000. I'll get the older stuff uploaded soon.

I started doing this in the summer of 2007. Its a project that I've been working off and on with over the years. Since I'm one of those old fossils that was there at the beginning, I know what to look for when it comes to collecting data. There's still some more work to do though, I'm not done.
