Encounters of the strange kind.
« on: January 06, 2009, 06:20:39 PM »
Imagine my surprise when my chum Korgan and I were wondering the crypts of Athkatla, when suddenly we are assaulted by a Medusa, of all things, and later by fireball throwing skeletons.

I'm assuming these were added with the Undying Mod because it is the newest installed on my game. If they are, what do they have to do with the NPCs. Is it possible you could make these optional components?

They're additional encounters that came from Desecration of Souls when I merged the two mods. The Medusa was in the crypts? It should have been out in one of the wooded areas.

i just wanted to pitch in that i met the Medusa just outside the spider chicks room. i wasn't clear if the first guy meant in the undead "edwin/korgan" quest section of the crypts, or just in general below the graveyard. i was pretty shocked by it too. One minute i'm slicing and dicing easily through some spiders, i turn toward the spiders den and bam, one of my characters gets stoned.  :o haha definitely a surprise! it was pure luck i had just bought a stone to flesh scroll to keep for when i rescued Imoen (i always carry an assload of scrolls for her to memorize. It fleshes out her thin spellbook and provides an instant XP boost.) because i had no spell memorized and i'd forgotten all about the medusa being possibly in that area.

Always save before venturing in a new area and always keep tactics on your mind.  :) Watch out when you visit the Graveyard District at night.

oh no worries there, i quicksave often and try to have a different save game before each major quest/area/event. i learned that early on when a quicksave and autosave both got corrupted and i had to go back a loooong way to the next most recent save game. VERY annoying.  ;D

Incidentally, i hit a second medusa encounter, 2 this time, in small teeth pass. i was better prepared that time.

Would it be difficult to make the additional encounters an optional install? The additional, tougher, encounters might discourage people who are only after the NPC related content.

I found the fireball shooting skeletons tough but manageable, I didn't meet any Medusa in the crypts funny enough...
