Monks is a class I never played and probably never will. They don't really fit in the Forgotten Realms.
Unfortunately I have to agree. Monks can be cool for P&P but they really are too weak for BG. I did once have an order of monks as the strong arm for my chief antagonist in an old campaign. "The Order Of the Black Lotus"...What!...We were teenagers...
Seek for the Sword that was broken: In Imladris it dwells; There shall be counsels taken, Stronger than Morgul-Spells.There shall be shown a token That Doom is near at hand, For Isildur's Bane shall waken, And the Halfling forth shall stand.

"It is the colour of a bleached skull, his flesh; and the long hair which flows to his shoulders is milk-white. From the tapering, beautiful head stare two eyes, crimson and moody, and from the loose sleeves of his yellow gown emerge two slender hands, also the color of bone." -"Elric of Melnibone"

Black Lotus isn't that a drug in the Realms setting?  :o

It is. I think you can find it mentioned in BG2 at the gates. ;)

On topic, clerics without a doubt. Lathander, Talos or Helm are not the only gods in the realms. Nevermind the fact that there are plenty of demihuman deities.
As a second, I'd say Ranger. Archer is a good kit, but the other 2 leave a lot to be desire. I want the PnP kits like Giant Killer, Forest Runner, Warden or Greenwood Ranger.

Surrender or be squished!

:D Yes it is...In BG1 it is mentioned in one of the tents at the circus and in BG2 a shady merchant has a brief discourse with a guard at the main gate in Athkatla where a sample is given away...And again in the Copper Coronet (Secret room off the hallway that connects the common room with the cells.) But the first time I heard it was in "Conan the Barbarian" starring Arnold Schwartzenegger(1981)...I got the impression that it was not unlike an opiate/poppy-like petal "Best when chewed slowly". We used it as a euphamism for something else back then...The aforementioned monks wore robes of indigo and bore no weapons. They relied on a combination of traditional disciplines and botanical pharmacology; poisons and drugs either ingested or self inflicted...The order was presided over by a powerful cavalier and aligned lawful evil. They could be sneaky and made great fodder...They were based on medieval age middle eastern zealot/killers for hire that we now call assassins. The word "Assassin" is a corruption of the word "Hashish". These men would get into an altered state of mind in preparation for their missions and were called the"Hashishin"(spelling unsure).  ;)

There were several kinds of lotus plants in Howard's Conan stories - probably all derived from the Lotus Eaters in Homer's Odyssey (which in turn could've had some historical basis).

The standard fighter and thief kits are pretty lame, though I suppose there are a few decent modded ones.

Agree on both counts with the major notable exception of the Skald tealeaf subclass which, IMO, rocks!

Isn't that a joke mod? How about something with substance?

Yeah, I think I read somewhere that Hubelpot is a one day Npc that got expanded a little bit. I have to agree that a well developed druid Npc would be very desirable. Druids are actually my favorite PnP characters along with Paladins. Not that I get to play PnP too often these days but my current character is a kilt-wearing satyr druid called Ganymede of the Crimson Leaf...

A druid that leans more towards the fanatical and evil would be an interesting npc, such as one that might worship Umberlee or Malar, perhaps.
HaerDaelis‚??: I once knew a Red Wizard of Thay
who dreamed of lichdom someday.
He said he knew how to do it
But he still managed to screw it
up in the funniest way.
