Funny. I've only really tried NPC mods. Unfortunatly, the one non-NPC mod I tried was TS which just didn't want to work. Kind of put me off all other non-NPC mods. Sad I know...

Okay. Maybe it isn't that funny :-\

I've always really fancied myself, an npc mod lover, but as I think about it I have more tweak and not so big quest mods on my computer that I don't think I get to claim npc. Afterall I don't really have any npc mods on my average install.

The quest mods comes on a close second place, but my favorite is any mod that affects NPCs, be it flirt packs, banter packs or be it a new NPC. It's a huge world, after all. Lots of people willing (or forced) to join for all the various reasons. Makes the game larger.

The Bhaal - Hunters.
The Firesoul and the Icequeen.

Out of most of the existing mods, I lean toward NPC mods.

Now, in the other thread, I have stated what I would like to see.
"A good pipe and tobacco will allow you to endure fools, boobs, nitwits, most bosses, angry spouses, (well, maybe not angry spouses), incompetents, slings and arrows, broadsides and people who cut in front of you after you've waited 15 minutes in highway construction zones, and most of life's little problems." - Ted's Pipe Shop

I'm not a big fan of trying new NPC mods. Most of them are not compatible with each other so you have to start a new game to try each of them. Not a bad thing in itself, but time is not my friend when it comes to playing games. I'd rather play some mods that extend my enjoyment within one game of BG2, than something suited for several games.

These days I prefer quest mods. A lot of quests. I get bored cycling through the dialogs of npcs.

Per me si va nell eterno dolore.
Per me si va tra la perduta gente...

Npc mods is what I like. My game will explode one day with all of the mods I have crammed into it.

NPC mods, not only because i belive they must be easier for modders to do (than big modifications) but because something so simple as adding dialogue to the game can make a huge diference in the end, of course, if said NPC comes with his own quests and maybe a new location, all the better!

With that said, i also love the "big mods" only because one can only go through the same quests for millionth time before he becomes slightly bored.

NPC for three reasons:

1.  I'm a role-player and delving into various personalities is fun.

2.  They are simple to get working.  You can add lots of them without having conflicts (at least in my experience).

3.  They are a good starting point for a modder.  You can make one pretty quickly and then add in other stuff -- items, quests, extra dialogue.   A little of everything.
In progress - Armin Kasun - a mercenary NPC for BG2

On hold - Halbo NPC for BG2, the evil halfling thief, food critic, and party troublemaker
