I can't imagine NPCs with completely untroubled pasts are any more common that real people with completely untroubled pasts.

OK, if said NPC had both parents die in a fire, while he/she was powerless to save them, despite heroic efforts to do so that resulted in full-thickness burns to both hands (but nowhere else), then went on to be raised by wolves, only to be abducted and forced into a life of slavery and/or prostitution, only to escape by sheer strength of will, only to find love at last in the arms of a person nearly as perfect as the PC, only to lose said person to a tragic wasting disease, and then nearly die of grief, but be saved by a kindly old scholar who was cut down in cold blood before him/her, and after which he/she wandered the world alone, loving no one and touching nothing, that would be 1) blatant avoidance of the full stop, and 2) too much.

Everyone has issues of some sort.  ;)

I still think Alora has an issue with Black Lotus. How can you be so happy all of the time without something to enhance your mood?

I'm not going to tamper with her history since we do not really know her history. No drug addictions or traumatic childhood.  ;)

I'm certain Alora had a happy childhood :)
Evil hidden everywhere
Evil has a chilling stare
Null and void of any care
Is where the answer lies
It does no good to beg or cry
It does no good to question why
It does no good it never dies
Evil never dies

You know, I always figured black lotus was more like opium: spacy and euphoric, but not exactly happy.

Which just caused a really stupid aha-moment. I just realized that the spice trader in Athkatla's city gates is actually smuggling black lotus, and is bribing the guard to look the other way! Yeah, I know I'm dense, but I've got a "Not Enough Coffee Error" on all screens.

Anyway, I might have posted a couple flip possibilities a few threads up, but I really believe that Alora is just a happy person.

Yes, there are plenty of people who appear to be unbelievably happy, but who have troubled pasts and/or inner turmoil. These people do use cheerfulness as a mask for a lot of pain. But usually there's something forced about their sunny disposition. Maybe you look over and they're staring into space, or maybe they make a sharp remark and apologize later. The point is, there is usually some clue.

In Alora's case, she's probably just really well adjusted, knows that people love her, and has an overabundance of seratonin. Lucky thing.

Smiles everyone smiles! Alora is just fine being a happy person. They do exist out there, Alora happens to be one of them.  :lilly

Just getting into the Alora mood. By the looks of it, you are getting into the stuffy Edwin mood?  :D
