New - Male dwarf (pencil)

:D You know, you're the second person today to say that to me, Vite! I'm getting some of my stuff evaluated soon - if it's good enough, then some of it will be available as prints etc. ;-)

Any hooo.... dwarf-ey goodness update.

Elysia would like to stress that this is a WIP and only represents a couple of hours worth of colouring!

A much bigger version is here (you can see the texture in his beard so much better here. And the guy who keeps making random comments (Hoodedman) is actually one of my roleplaying buddies who watched me sketch this! )

What Q said. And I am looking forward to more portraits of the rarely represented races; it is so wonderful to see them not "cartoonish" but more "real" and visually appealing. A female dwarf as a matching portrait to the male would be great. Maybe a clerical style with bright scarf to cover off some of her beard (the challenge is to make the character feminine, I think), coins in her ears or something like that? :)

A female dwarf is my ultimate goal, I have to admit (although there is some debate on the beard issue - I like the idea of female dwarves with beards, but other people really hate it! Maybe I should do two versions...). Although I still love my elves, they are totally over-represented. People are fickle and a little shallow, though - take DA for an example. Draw a scantily clad elf = lots of attention. Draw a gruff dwarf (which is proficiently probably the better picture) = no one wants to know. Ah well!

:) Now I just have to figure out how to roughen his skin slightly. Baby soft elf skintype not appropriate for rough and ready dwarf, methinks...

Freckles or porous look?

With regards to the female dwarves, FR ones still have beards, I think. I am not sure that I like them having beards, but I guess it is sort of given. It is wierd and difficult, but there could be interesting alterantives there, for example long moustache or goatees or sideburns or square chin beard only, or an item of clothing that strategically obscure at least part of the beard, like a raised collar and a half-turned head.

Well, the scarred ear would already help you with that. :) But apart from that you could reduce the amount of light on his cheeks and nose, seeing as how his skin now has a bit a ďglowĒ effect. Thatís not really a bad thing, but perhaps not entirely suitable for an experienced and rough dwarf. :)

Itís looking quite nice thus far, and Iím already looking forward to seeing the end result. :-D
I am.

Perhaps I should not, but that is not for you to decide.

I actually don't mind the skin like that. Scars/roughness don't always have to feature. With dark eyes, I think it'll be really fantastic.

And please, please - a no-beard version?

Dwarf females do *have* beards.  :P
Real sucks, Barca rules !

I like Real only when it plays in Segunda Division !
