Thank you, everyone!  My birthday was great fun, though it was not much about my birthday!  We had our Thanksgiving celebration today, so I spent yesterday baking pies.  A dozen pies.  Really.  And today we had about 25 adults and 8 children all get together for an American Thanksgiving dinner.  Americans were outnumbered, I think, but we all had a really good time.  And nethrin remembered it was my birthday, too!     He got me a strap for my cell phone--a rosary.  I love it!

Maybe I can get some pictures up, but I will have to see if nethrin took any.

I have to ask because i know nothing of this holiday apart from what i gathered from TV. What sort of pies?

I baked a pie in cookery in early high school but that was my last effort. Worked ok but it was a lot of work and worry. Mmmm apple and cinnamon with custard on top... (*drool*)

American Indian culture fascinates me but i think any american indian would find me sufficiently annoying that i could work part time in some sort of limbo as a tormenting devil. "So what's the deal with the beads and manhattan? Is it true about the scalping? Could you really have four wives?"

I could be used to terrible effect!

Total Tangent: I once tried to sleep through a hot queensland night in a cane field ... with just a sleeping bag to protect me against swarms of the little bloodsuckers. I understand there was some ancient demon who's province was the locust; maybe he had a lieutenant who specialised in mozzies and gnats.

p.s. can someone mod Saeri so she can have a bithday party too? (*g*)

Pies?  We made pumpkin cheesecake pie, cherry pie, apple pie, and a layered pumpkin pie using cream cheese and whipped cream.  That one was new this year.    We usually do simply pumpkin pie in its place.  And we have to do everything from scratch, including the pie crust.  That one is my speciality, so I rolled out pie crust for hours.  :roll:

Sonya Thomas, 37, who weighs only 47.5 kilograms, beat seven men in the annual Thanksgiving Invitational, a race to eat a 4.5-kilogram turkey, Reuters reports.

The smallest in the field, Thomas put her victory down to "swallowing fast". "It was very dry and the skin was very dry," she said, holding her trophy, a roasting pan, over her head. "I just tried to eat fast."

Happy belated birthday!  Darn work is keeping me off line more than I would like.  Interesting that you still had Thanksgiving!  I would have to do the same if I lived abroad.  Nothing like some good pumpkin pie.
