Noobers Dwarven Hammer / Number of posts has decreased
« on: October 04, 2005, 01:30:15 AM »
I noticed that the number of posts of our members has decreased. I, for instance, should have had 873, but I have only 851. And it happened to everyone. Not that I would care for that number, but does that mean that some posts were removed ?  :?

Noobers Dwarven Hammer / Spam from email
« on: September 16, 2005, 01:09:39 AM »
I was recently asked by another member of CoM if I emailed her. I did not. It seems that  my e-mail account was used to send unsolicited spam messages during the recent week (so said a message from the yahoo webmaster). I have no idea how was that possible. If anyone else has received mails from, remove it. I have nothing to do with those emails and I have no idea about their content.

Saerileth Romance / About the hell trials and saerileth
« on: September 13, 2005, 01:40:07 AM »
BTW, since I noticed that some players had problems after choosing an evil option for the Hell trials, I wish to inform that there is a mod, Revised Hell trials, which does not turn you evil after one single evil choice and offers neutral paths as well.

It can be found here :

Saerileth Romance / Have you ever consider not to romance Saerileth
« on: September 12, 2005, 04:14:33 AM »
I'm curious, many have played the mod, enjoyed the romance and loved Saerileth. But was there anyone who, after taking Saeri in party and having her in love with him, has decided to end the relationship ? Please, provide reasons for your answers (any of those 3 options). After all, Saeri is lovely, but she can't be a match for all the population of possible bhaalspawns with at least 16 Cha.

Saerileth Romance / Saerileth/Fade
« on: August 21, 2005, 05:39:23 AM »
Since both those ladies are quite taken with the PC, what do you think they would say to each other in a competition for PC's affections ?  :D

Fade to Saerileth : "Take your hands off of my Charname, you ridiculous goody-goody paladin !!!"

Saerileth Romance / The devil from hell (saeri mod)
« on: August 21, 2005, 05:26:52 AM »
Do you want him to be weakened. I would say yes. For 2 reasons :

1. It's too powerful even for a level 12-14 party ;
2. His traits are too powerful for a devil which, in the end, is only a servant of Glourkist.

For comparison look how pit fiends are described : "Pit fiends are the lords of the Nine Hells. They are the baatezu of the greatest power and the highest station. Pit fiends are found throughout the various layers of the Nine Hells, but are very rare on the upper layers.

Wherever they are found, these mighty lords hold a position of great authority and power. They sometimes command vast legions consisting of dozens of complete armies, leading them into battle against the tanar'ri. These huge forces are terrifying to behold, and any non-native of the lower planes, of less than 10 Hit Dice, who sees them, flees in panic for 1-3 days. Those of 10 Hit Dice or more must make a saving throw vs. rod, staff, or wand or flee in panic for 1-12 turns. "

Now what are their characteristics : AC -5, Thac0 7, 6 attacks/round, special attacks (fear, poison, tail constriction), regenerate 2 hp/round, 50% magic resistance, 50% resistance to cold, immune to poison and fire.

Now, what are the characteristics of the devil you have to confront in Hell (I did not pay too much attention until now because I had an immortal ally  :D ) :  -9 AC, 18 DEX for -13 AC total, regenerates 2 hp per second, immune to almost everything, 7 (!!) attacks per round, permanent haste, casts true sight by script without needing to take the time to actually cast it, and his weapon poisons and does extra elemental damage. This one could easily cut down a party of pit fiends.
A devil with such capabilities could be even one of the Lords of Hell. It makes me wonder if that Glourkist was not in fact Asmodeus in disguise (to have such a powerful servant).
I think the authors should reduce his stats to those of a pit fiend, at least.

Saerileth Romance / Help me solving a riddle... (saerileth mod)
« on: August 09, 2005, 04:32:07 AM »
I need some help in solving a riddle. A logic nerd like me can't simply understand a possible outcome from the last meeting with Edorem, when he suggests a duel.
Situation : when Edorem's accusation prove false, he proposes a duel to Charname. Saerileth asks Charname to spare Edorem's life and she claims she is bound to defend him in case things turn to violence, because he is a servant of Tyr.
     Possibilities :

A. Saerileth is indeed bound to defend Edorem.
Question : why did Edorem issued such a challenge to Charname ? As Saerileth's superior, he should know the regulations of his own church. So, he should know Saerileth must stand beside him in such a situation. Possible answers :

1. Edorem is lax in his memories.
2. Edorem does not know his own rules.
3. Edorem wanted this to happen so that Saerileth fights against her beloved. A last attempt from him to ruin his rival.

B. Saerileth is not bound to defend Edorem.
Questions :
- why does Saerileth say she is ?
- why Edorem does not tell her she has no obligations to stand by his side, since he was the perpetrator of the offence ?
     Possible answers :

First question :
1. Saerileth has no idea about her own obligations as a paladin of Tyr. During her courses, she played nintendo while the priests read the newspapers.
2. Edorem convinced her that the rules do not apply to him.

Second question :
1. He does not know that Saerileth is not bound to defend him. --> Conclusion : when he suggested a duel, he believed Saeri was compelled to do that. --> He launched the challenge with this specific purpose : to determine Saeri to fight Charname.
2. He knows, but he likes the possible outcome (him+Saerileth against Charname).

Well, I used a joking tone, but the problem is very serious. Why does Edorem suggest a duel if Saerileth is bound to fight in his stead ? Not to mention that a duel is a fight one against one. If it's 2 against one (Saerileth+Edorem against Charname), then it's murder.  :P

Saerileth Romance / Saerileth and Yasraena

Which one of those 2 mods have you played ?
Me, I played them both.

Other Games / What RPG do you expect most ?
« on: July 29, 2005, 09:17:05 AM »
3 new RPGs are in development and all of them look very promising : Dragon Age from Bioware, TES IV : Oblivion from Bethesda, NWN 2 from Obsidian. I look forward for Dragon Age, mainly because it will have a party-based adventure which was so much neglected in NWN (I still think NWN would have been much better if it had classic NPCs instead of henchmen).

Saerileth Romance / Why does Saeri leave the party?
« on: July 24, 2005, 03:52:54 AM »
I want to bring into the attention of N&S team another problematic issue of this mod :

Why does Saerileth leave the party, despite the fact she was assigned by Tyr to look for Kesevar with the help of Charname ? If Charname falls for evil, it's perfectly understandable. A paladin cannot work together with evil characters. It is more preferable to achieve his goal alone rather than in conjunction with an evil companion. But Saerileth leaves if Charname hurts her feelings. The problem is : despite this fact, Charname has not become evil. Of course, it's hard for Saerileth to stay close to a man who has broken her heart, but Tyr's edicts should be paramount. As a paladin and a chosen, she should not let her personal feelings interfere with her quest. Tyr is a good god indeed, but he is not a babysitter and he won't look favorable on a paladin who has failed in his task for personal reasons.
In such circumstances, Saerileth's reaction seem to contradict her tenets on absolute obedience.

Saerileth Romance / Next versions of Saerileth
« on: July 23, 2005, 12:56:11 AM »
So, with v7, the Saerileth draws to a close or you still have something more to add to the next version, Nethrin ? In other words, did you implement in the mod all that you planned (you know, that doc  :P ) ?

Saerileth Romance / Edorem's fate (saerileth mod spoiler thread)
« on: July 21, 2005, 07:53:41 AM »
In ToB, the wraith tells Saerileth that Edorem has commited suicide because she rejected him. But the source of the information is extremely unreliable. So, what do you think has befallen Edorem after he left ?

In regard to what the wraith said, I don't give it any credit at all. Personally, I don't see Edorem killing himself out of desperation. So, this possibility I dismiss from the start. But that does not mean that all was well for him afterwards. Here I have to quote myself from a previous thread :

1. Edorem's interference can undermine the task which Saerileth has to perform. This falls into the cathegory of extreme violations of the ethos : "Inadvertently inflicting great harm on the patron's cause, such as failure to protect an artifact or important official." If Edorem's interference leads to Saerileth being cast from Charname's side, then she cannot accomplish her task anymore. The penalty is the loss of the ability to cast spells or the loss of one of the paladinic abilities.

2. By taking Saerileth into his party and agreeing to help her in her mission, Charname has automatically become an ally of the Church of Tyr. All ethos violations involving an official of the paladin's church or anyone associated with it belong to Cathegory 3 or 4, depending on the circumstances. To cast insult to someone associated with the church falls into Cathegory 3. Since the offence was commited twice, it falls into cathegory 4, of execrable violations. Since this was a crime against the church, this can result in Edorem being beheaded by the church of Tyr or in Tyr striking him down with a lightning bolt or causing the Earth to swallow him.

3. Charname and Edorem worked together to free Saerileth and they draw swords together against a dangerous foe. In such a case, PC becomes the paladin's brother-in-arms. The paladin is bound never to cause him harm or speak ill of him, except for the case that person is evil.
If the paladins shows disrespect towards his comrade, this falls into cathegory 3, of extreme violations, with the penalty described above.

4. Saerileth is Edorem's beloved. If Edorem has openly declared his love for Saerileth, this is considered an ethos vow. The paladin is bound to remain true to his love, no matter if she reciprocates. If someone helps the paladin's beloved, then the paladin is forever in debt to that person. It also depends on the circumstances : if the person helped the paladin by giving her a healing potion, then to offend that person belongs to Cathegory 3. If the person has saved the paladin's beloved at the risk of his own life, then the paladin is bound to show him the same respect as for his own family members. If he does not, then the violation of the ethos belongs to cathegory 4. In our case, PC contributed to Saerileth's salvation at the risk of his own life. To offend such a person is for the paladin a violation from cathegory 4, the cathegory of execrable violations. Even a single violation belonging to this cathegory result in an immediate and irrevocable loss of the paladin status, without the possibility of atonement.

So, Edorem has commited some serious transgressions. In the light of this, the loss of his paladinhood and Chosen status is certain so it is likely he will be cast out from the church of Tyr, but not punished more severely, because of his previous exploits. Personally, I do not have any doubts about this. His course after his banishment it is more problematic. What he would do I cannot know. There are 2 options : either he will continue to act in the service of goodness only as a fighter, seeking atonement (and maybe achieving it one day) either he falls totally, blames Charname for his misfortunes and starts plotting his revenge (like other character from Sillara's books does  :D ). Personally, I would go for the latter, since pride is one of Edorem's main traits and it is not likely for him to take such a failure kindly.

Saerileth Romance / Charisma requirement for Saerileth mod
« on: July 10, 2005, 07:44:12 AM »
What is your opinion on the charisma requirement needed for the romance ? If possible, please motivate your option.

I voted for version 3. I never liked that requirement. Sometimes it made me wonder if Saerileth is romancing Charname himself or just Charname's image. When the mod was in its creation stage, I asked Sillara why does Saeri need such a high Charisma. She answered that a paladin like her will have high expectations from a potential lover. This is a good motivation indeed. But there is one essential question which was nagging at me for a long time and I will adress it now : what those "high expectations" consist of ? A very high charisma ? Charisma is defined as persuasiveness, personal magnetism and leadership capabilities. But charisma does not influence the personality of the NPC in the slightest. What would it be more important for Saeri : to have the looks of Apollo or to behave like Finrod ? If Saeri had to choose between a character with 14 Cha but with a personality in Finrod style and an arrogant ass with 18 Charisma, what would she choose ? (BTW, Nethrin/Sillara, the questions are not rhetoricals  :D )
