Mod Room / Dalin and Roseli - A tragic love story
« on: May 11, 2011, 05:58:56 PM »
Dalin and Roseli - To be updated regularly? Maybe?

This is a rough outline of Dalin and Roseli!

Why are you creating this thread when you actually haven't prove yourself to be a good modder?

Because I actually feel an attachment to these npcs, if you're a writer you'll understand what I mean. I feel a need to tell their story, and even if I can't actually finish them I want this to be here. I will get the dialogue done at the very least and if I can't get it to work I'll find someone who can help. It would actually be perfect if I had a partner in working on this, like someone who can actually code... because I am absolute shit at this. I also want feedback on if anyone is actually interested in Dalin and Roseli. Even if you're not though I'm making them for me  >_>

Who are Dalin and Roseli?

Dalin and Roseli are two romanceable NPCs with a story of their own to be explored. You will be able to travel with either of these characters and will not have to travel with both to experience their story however travelling with both will allow you to experience the full tragedy that is their story.

What classes are they?
Dalin is a fighter and Roseli is a thief.

What alignments are they?
Dalin is True Neutral and Roseli is Chaotic Neutral.

What are their stats?
This will come later

What is this story?
You'll find out <3 I don't really want to give it all away, as that would ruin the surprise but there IS actually a story this time, and I like to think it's a very, very good one.

Who is Dalin and why isn't he Dale?
Dalin is the natural evolution of Dale. He is a character who has experienced a terrible event in his life that has changed him as a person. Instead of being the happy and go lucky figure that was Dale, he is the jaded and morose figure that's only reason for existence is finding Roseli. There is a lot more to him than this simple story, and you will come to explore that as you travel with him.

Who is Roseli? Why isn't she Rosehip?
I found that the simple tale I had of a boy looking for his sister was actually a very simplistic one. Roseli was a character that kind of developed without me realising it, as I thought about changing who she was to Dale. In making her his bride-to-be, she changed fundamentally as a character and could no longer be the person who you never actually meet or interact with. So came Roseli, a woman who was captured from her village and sold to slavers. She has been broken, but not beaten, in being a slave her personality was reforged and has created a very interesting and seductive woman who has no qualms about practically anything... or does she? She only recently escaped and is only now discovering who she really is.

Why are you so terrible at keeping to plans?
Because my life is a jumbled mess and I don't usually realise just how crappy my story ideas are until I actually try to develop them. Dale was a whimsical idea, but once I really thought about how Dale would be effected by coming home to find someone he cared about taken I realised I had to rewrite the whole idea. Hopefully this will be a whole load better than Dale... and hopefully I'll actually finish it XD

Will there be Player initiated dialogue?
I couldn't get this to work with Dale, but I'm hoping to find out what I was doing wrong and getting Roseli and Dalin to have flirts.

Will there be explicit sex?
Yes. Why? Because I write this so well. Or I like to think I do. I probably don't. But oh well, we'll see.

Stages of developement:
1. Creation of Dalin and Roseli as npcs. One to two banters with each Bioware NPC and quite a few with the PC to create a friendship track.

2. Creation of the PC romance track and addition of reactions to events in the world. IE Quest reactions... etc

3. Implementation of their interactivity. IE The actual relationship between Roseli and Dalin.

Okay, I've started uni and just recently picked up trying to mod again (I know, I'm terrible)

But the more I think about Dale the more I realise I've created him completely wrong, the events that have occurred in his past would not have created the happy go lucky fellow I created him as, and so this is what is going to happen:

A basic version of Dale will be created and posted up here, as in he only has one banter with each NPC and the PC with the most basic of player initiated dialogues. THIS WILL BE THE END OF THIS DALE.

I will go on to create Dalin and Roseli. This will be a twin NPC pack with Dalin as a neutral fighter and Roseli as a thief. The relationship between these two is no longer a sister/brother relationship but actually a romantic one.

I am terribly sorry about this, but as I've tried to develop Dale as a character he has changed into another person entirely.  However look forward to Dalin and Roseli as their story is actually something I'm very interested in exploring, more so than I was with Dale alone.

Again, do not expect too much, as obviously I have not presented to you any reason to feel positive about my efforts in creating NPCs. I will create a new thread for Dalin and Roseli so you can present feedback about the two.

Install Context or your favorite text editor, right click on Properties and set it to open with your favorite text editor, other than Notepad/Wordpad. On mine I set it up so it open with Context.

I want to second the recommendation of using context.

I am a terrible modder, and it takes more then a few tries for me to get things to work. Context is great when you are testing and weidu spits out "error on line ____".

You can jump directly to that line, rather then having to count.
That is just AWESOME~ *googles*

I've got a nice shiny windows 7 compute since my old one nuked itself.

And now I can't figure out how to save text files as my mod files (ie tp2 and d)

Since even when I use save as and change the type to all files, it won't let me save it as anything other than a txt. It doesn't take notice of my .tp2 ending.

Anyone know how to get around this? Because if I can't that means I'll never get Dale done...

Sorry, I've been dealing with a lot of stuff in my life, and next year I'm going to start uni so I've been busy.

I am however working on the dialog and once I've completed that I'll get back into the modding side of things and figure out how to make it work!

But now for some good news! Guess who's started putting back ye olde english :D

Currently gotten his banters in SOA done, I believe I'm finished with his entering party dialogue x3 Might post up some teasers for you when I've found the love talks <3

@Kitanna if you could tell me which files exactly need to be edited or send me the appropriate files I'll get started (I don't want to fiddle with the wrong files)

Well, it's not like I have much better to do at the moment, I'll give it a shot. With trusty Shakespeare at my side it should be a fair walk in the woods (hopefully not Cloakwood).

Hells no. If you need any help with reinstating ye olde english, I'm fairly good in that department thanks to writing some sonnets~

Actually that part has been working for me, it didn't work after I forgot to uninstall before replacing my Neh't stuff with the new version.

Have you tried a complete uninstall and reinstall of the game? That fixed those problems for me.

I've completely uninstalled and reinstalled the game, would that fix it or not?

I keep getting given two pieces of the rift device when I talk to the Avatar, it's nothing serious though you can just drop the other piece without any ill effects.

Also I got some weird dialogue happening occasionally, even after multiple uninstalls and reinstalls (ie Neh't name was replaced with part of one of his Valygar dialogues, then one of the Jaheira talks started with one of her love talks) this may have been a corrupted install or something, so I'll see if I don't get any with 3.6

(I think it's better to ask this here than in the bug thread  :P )

What is the last Love talk for SoA? (So that I know when to stop expecting more love and get on with TOB)

Yeah, I had the same problem as Ankhesenpaaten (can I call you Ankh? I mean seriously, that's just annoying to type out xD ), after a complete uninstall and reinstall the graveyard stuff worked. (was there meant to be anything specific for the romance when Neh't talks to you after you kill that little girl's monsters?).
