Mod Making Discussion / Re: EVIL NPCs

There's many different types of "evil", many of which aren't in the game.
Good luck to all that create evil NPC's. I'm better at creating good/neutral ones, though I have 4 evil ones planned for Soul Exchange.

Though I'm sure you don't want my opinion, I'd suggest something like a quest or item/store mod.

I still carry the idea for Khan, a NE NPC of mine.
He was fun and easy to write for, and a new dimension to the game.

Alternatively, Haywire. CE half-elven fighter/thief. Very disturbing.

(....) it might help me in the long run.

Actually, it might not, as the E2 processors sucks. Windows XP doesn't handle the Dual-cores the best way (something that only Vista is ready to (wonder why ::) )), and an E2 isn't really that good to handle Windows Vista, even with Aero completely turned off.
I have one of those (E2160) as well, and I'd love to trade it for that Dual-core 3.0 GHz, but I found out that, while the sockets are both 775, there are more differences between them, and my current motherboard might not be compatible with it. So, I'd have to replace the motherboard too, and, most likely, the RAM as well. >:(

Well, Crazee, whatever you do, don't go asking other people what they think of their current jobs (for inspiration/guidance). :P Most likely, you'll get to hear a string of complains (and mild obscenities) full of frustration and disappointment... Which has nothing to do with the jobs, per se, just their own lives and personal decisions.

Me, I studied (term loosely translated) Mechatronics, which is both Mechanics and Electronics, and yet I've spent the last four years working a desk job as an accountant, part time chauffeur (for the boss only and, even then, it's only to take for meetings to clients, as I happen to be the only one in the office with a driver's license and a car) and computer technician (as I also happen to be the only one with a basic knowledge of computers at the office). :D

Try to think of something that interests, that has an appeal to you. Then, do a little research and see not only if it's a very filled-up profession (lots of candidates for a small demand), but also how much the average worker on that field of expertise gets. ;D

Currently playing:
- The Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth (as I have upgraded the PC a bit, it runs better now (with graphs at max ;D))
- C&C 3: Kane's Wrath
- Fallout 2
- NWN 2
- Oblivion (if I actually get the patience to keep, that is. A bit of a bore, spending nearly one hour summoning a skeleton and provoking it, all to raise a skill :P)

Baldur's Gate 2
Deus Ex
Command & Conquer
Warcraft 2
Fallout 2

And a special mention to VtM: Bloodlines. ;D

Like Fierkraag (sp?), so to speak? ;D
Yeah maybe something like that.  But that's a dragon isn't it?  You'd expect that from a dragon.  I don't mean someone who *literally* assumes another form, I mean a regular NPC who talks a good talk but whose actions reveal different motives entirely.  Kind of like Dracula in the novel at first, though Harker finds out pretty quickly what he really is.

Yeah, well, what kind of secrecy was Dracula vying for, when having three "hungry brides" roaming free? ::) ;D

Anyway, that's a very good idea, for an evil NPC. Would require a somewhat-heavy plot/characterization...
Bhodi, in a way, does that kind of things. And so does that "archaeologist" at Fierkraag's home. And I'm sure there are more. Their sub-quest would have to be carefully balanced, yes, so as not to make the players look too dumb? ;D Place subtle signs, here and there, for the more cautious eye to see and suspect but not really believe?

Regardless, I agree with both your idea and Serenity's; either a deceiving one (Illusionist or Bard? ;D) or a wicked sick NPC. :evil

I also wonder, if after exposing, and if the player's character fills certain "requisites", one could romance him/her/it?
just kidding

I like the idea of foulness in a fair form. Too many villains are too obvious in their ill intent. It'd be more intriguing for an evil character to speak well and act nobly, yet have secret deeds or plans of true depravity. Add to it that their alignment should just show as "neutral" or whatever until you gage the true scope of their evil. Such a one could mislead a good PC with wittiness and persuasion to perform evil acts unwittingly, like to kill "enemies" who turn out to be innocent.

Like Fierkraag (sp?), so to speak? ;D

Clever board, with the PCI-E slots "far" from each other; helps in not turning the case into a furnace. ;D

And like Shugojin asked, what kind of cooling are you going for? Boosting the 8400 for 4.1 Gigs is a lot, yes, but the heat... Personally, I'd make some modifications in the case, in order to aim a 120mm fan directly at the processor (I would probably even go mad and buy a fan capable of going to the 5000 rpm or more ;D despite the noise).

Oh, and I agree with Shugojin concerning the water cooling, plus investing in fans is cheaper and simpler, not to mention sufficient at most cases. ;)

The Intel Dual and Quad processors should be having a drop in prices by this summer/autumn, as Intel aims to release their new Nehalem (sp? and it was a temporary name at the time I read the article) processors (with 8 cores plus Hyper-Thread :o).

IGN/Vault Network have set up a Memorial page; there are already two comments from BioWare and one of a CEO of Blizzard. There's also a link at the bottom for a thread for members of the Vault Network.

Noobers Dwarven Hammer / D&D co-creator dies at 69
« on: March 04, 2008, 02:00:25 PM »
Gary Gygax, who co-created the fantasy game Dungeons & Dragons and helped start the role-playing phenomenon, died Tuesday morning at his home in Lake Geneva. He was 69.

He had been suffering from health problems for several years, including an abdominal aneurysm, said his wife, Gail Gygax.

Gygax and Dave Arneson developed Dungeons & Dragons in 1974 using medieval characters and mythical creatures. The game known for its oddly shaped dice became a hit, particularly among teenage boys, and eventually was turned into video games, books and movies.

(....) As you can see I was quite happy. :lilly

Influenced by the drink you're holding? ;D
(either holding or placed in front of you)

Good shot, BTW. Hadn't yet seen one with you laughing, IIRC.

Ok, finally finished Painkiller: Overdose (more like Painkiller 1.5, as others have said, really), and Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory (crappy plot, IMO).

Back to Civ 4: BtS & Fallout 2. ;D
Also eagerly awaiting for patch 1.12 for NWN2 - been waiting for OE to fix crafting for the Warlock.
